The main event of the week for Odesa and the whole of Ukraine was the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship of the mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov.

This was the topic of discussion in the weekly Intent' s Accent.

In particular, the journalists asked political experts about their opinions on this event. The head of the Odesa regional organization of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine , Anatoliy Boyko, believes that the government's actions have a complex political implication.

"It seems that Trukhanov was deprived of power not because of his citizenship, and most likely not because of corruption, not even because of the deaths of people, but in order to run the city's military administration. Back in the spring, there were rumors that such an administration would be introduced. In September, Odesa region was classified as a war zone, which created legal grounds and opportunities for a military administration. In recent years, military administrations have been introduced in many cities, and this adds up to a certain picture that the presidential administration is preparing for possible elections, and for this, of course, it is important to take control of regional centers," he noted.

Instead, political analyst Mykhailo Shabanov believes that the deprivation of Hennadiy Trukhanov's citizenship is due to the overall strategic status of Odesa within Ukraine and is aimed at stabilizing society within Odesa.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the relevant decree on October 14, simultaneously announcing the creation of the Odesa City Military Administration. This decision caused a real media storm - from political discussions to public disputes on social media.

On October 12, Trukhanov said that a "provocation" was being prepared to deprive him of his Ukrainian citizenship. Two days later, the presidential decree became a fact.

On October 16, Serhiy Lysak was appointed head of the newly created military administration, and during his introduction, he emphasized that his priority would be the security of the city.
