A cultural heritage monument located in the very center of Mykolaiv, which is the city's business card, is up for sale on the National Electronic Exchange website. It is the first tram station.
As Intent previously wrote, the electronic auction will take place on March 12, with a starting price of UAH 3.5 million and an auction step of UAH 35 thousand.
Meanwhile, Mykolaiv City Council noted that the city does not have the financial capacity to purchase the historic building on Soborna Street, which is currently up for sale, Mikvisti reported.
The head of the culture department, Yuriy Lyubarov, explained that in times of war, spending budget funds on real estate is expedient from both a financial and moral point of view. He emphasized that even if the necessary amount of money is available, the priority now is to cover the city's immediate needs rather than to purchase new facilities.
"It is a very beautiful, historic building. The Department of Culture would be happy to purchase this building, but it is not the right time for that, even if the city had the funds," the official explained.
The building put up for auction is the first transformer substation built in 1915 to supply the electric tram. It has the status of a cultural heritage monument and is under a protection agreement.
The name of the architect who designed the building has not been preserved. However, according to the city's Department of Culture, in the 1970s, thanks to the initiative of the city's former chief architect Olha Popova, the building, which had not been used for a long time, was preserved. After reconstruction, a small but popular among the townspeople cafe Sadko with 30 seats was opened there.
It operated until 1989, after which it was replaced by the Assol bar, which did not last long. In the 1990s, the building was empty again and fell into disrepair, and according to some reports, a casino operated there for a period of time.
In the early 2000s, the Mykolaiv branch of Aval Bank became the owner of the historic building, which renovated it and placed its branch there.
