The head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, has been instructed to consider the possibility of employing veterans who fought in the war to work for the Municipal Guard.

He announced this after a meeting with district heads, law enforcement officers and representatives of the Defense Forces.

The meeting decided to ask the State Emergency Service to provide specialists to inspect the city's infrastructure in order to minimize the negative consequences for Odesa residents following the downpour that occurred on September 30.

Mr. Lysak also instructed to inspect shelters and increase their number and to check the Indestructibility Points before the winter period.

During the introduction of Serhiy Lysak on October 16, he said that he would meet with representatives of the Municipal Guard and would probably ask private security companies to leave the military administration's premises.

As for the tragedy of September 30, when an all-day rainstorm killed 11 people, an electronic petition about the need to overhaul and clean storm sewers in Odesa appeared on the website of the Presidential Office.

Law enforcement officers began inspections and investigations in the offices of the Odesa municipality and district administrations as part of criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligence that caused death).

The Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies (TES&E) at the Odesa City Council also identified the districts and streets of the city that are at the highest risk of flooding following the September 30 floods.
