In the Mykolaiv region, 3,279 people fell ill with the flu and acute respiratory viral infections, including COVID-19, during the week of October 12–18. This is 7.2% fewer cases than the previous week. Children account for nearly 72% of all cases.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Among children, 2,347 cases of ARVI were recorded—8.9% fewer than the week before. Among adults, 932 people fell ill, which is 2.9% fewer than the previous figure. Of the total number of sick children, 74% are schoolchildren.

In Mykolaiv, 1,568 cases of acute respiratory viral infections were recorded over the week, compared to 1,706 the previous week.

Fifty-five people were admitted to hospitals in the region, including five patients with COVID-19. No patients were admitted to intensive care, and no deaths were reported.

Laboratory tests detected the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in six out of 20 samples. All confirmed cases were recorded in Mykolaiv. No laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza were detected in the region.

In the Odesa region, the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), including COVID-19, also decreased by 7.7% during the same period. It remains at the background level and is 30.3% below the epidemic threshold, standing at 408.9.

At the same time, 175 patients were hospitalized in the Odesa region, which is 5.4% fewer than the previous week. Children accounted for 68% of those hospitalized. According to virological monitoring data, rhinovirus, adenovirus, and parainfluenza were circulating in the region.

Due to the high incidence of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), classes were temporarily suspended at one preschool in the village of Stara Nekrasivka, Izmail District.
