This year's School of Antiquities in Odesa was held for the first time in winter

The School of Antiquities in Odesa, which has been held for seven years in a row, was held for the first time in winter instead of summer.
This was announced by the event organizer Pavlo Maiboroda.
According to him, the first school was held back in 2019, organized by historians Vladyslav Vodko and Maksym Panin, along with him. The goal of the school was to interdisciplinarily study ancient societies (the Ancient East, Greece, and Rome), unite Ukrainian antiquity scholars, and attract young researchers to science.
He also noted that seven schools have already been held from 2019 to 2026. They usually take place in the free space of the Underground, located at 79 Kanatna Street. The school's program usually includes lectures where young and experienced scholars can share their work, "slow reading" in ancient languages such as Latin and Greek, and various cultural activities such as excursions, movie screenings, and board games.
This year's school included ten lectures that covered all aspects of the history of the ancient world-from the Jews, the Bible, and the Etruscans to the reception of antiquity, i.e., how it is perceived in the modern world, for example, through computer games.
In November, an exhibition-requiem was opened in Odesa, which conveys the lives of people during the Holodomor through personal stories and everyday objects. The exhibition combines archival materials, eyewitness accounts, and interactive elements to demonstrate how people survived the famine. The hall recreated the food and ingredients that residents of Odesa region had to eat during the famine. Among the exhibits are acorns, sawdust, pieces of leather from shoes and belts, and excerpts from people's memoirs of the 1930s.
