The ceiling in the shelter of the European Lyceum in Odesa could have been accidentally hit and torn off its fasteners, and it has now been repaired.
This was reported by Olena Buynevych, Director of the Department of Science and Education of the Odesa City Council.
"The workers say the fasteners were damaged. But this is a part of the corridor that is easy to reach by hand, as the tiles did not fall but sagged, so we allow for mechanical impact. The school took this seriously. They partially removed the ceiling in the shelter and are inspecting the fasteners," she said.
The inspection also revealed spots on the ceiling that have stains because there were leaks from pipes during the repair. It was decided to replace the ceiling tiles with such traces for the sake of aesthetics.
"After the shelter, the corridors will also be checked. And here I want to ask everyone (both colleagues and parents). If you use such ceilings, you don't need to tie anything to the suspended ceiling fixtures. As we noticed in the European one (I'll attach a photo). Here, a strong line was hung on the fasteners, to which the decor was tied during the holidays. I don't know if there was one in the corner of the shelter. Maybe so, because fairs were held there," the official said.
Olena Buynevych also reminded that the European Lyceum Commission, which checked the readiness of educational institutions, visited the school three times, and two of the visits ended with the commission deciding that the institution was not ready.
"The first visit was about sanitary conditions. The installation of drainage systems in the toilet, which had not been used before, was not completed. They did not get to all the premises. The second was the lack of documentation. And the toilets are not yet completed. And I personally had to intervene. The Center for Economic Activity was instructed to repair the wall adjacent to the stairs outside the school. And some other minor works that required money. This was done, and the school was accepted," said the director of the department.
According to Olena Buynevych, the commission members had no comments on the shelter.
