Mykolaiv City Council is preparing to amend the city's comprehensive Education program for 2025-2027. More than UAH 9 million has been allocated for after-school programs in schools.
The relevant draft decision has already been preliminarily reviewed by the executive committee.
The changes are aimed at improving the conditions of education and upbringing of children, introducing innovative mechanisms for the development of education, and adapting the educational process to modern challenges. The main innovations include expanding funding for school maintenance, ensuring the functioning of after-school care centers, and supporting gifted students.
According to the draft decision, the city council's education department will receive funds to ensure the proper functioning of secondary education institutions, including special and preschool departments. The funding will come from the local and state budgets, as well as from the educational subvention and a special fund.
Special attention will be paid to after-school care centers. In 2025-2027, it is planned to allocate more than UAH 9.5 million from the city budget for their maintenance.
The program will continue to pay scholarships from the mayor and the city council to the winners of All-Ukrainian Olympiads, competitions and members of the Small Academy of Sciences. The total amount of funding for these purposes over the next three years will be more than UAH 1.3 million.
The final decision on amendments to the Education program will be made by the city council members at their next meeting.
Also, primary school students in Mykolaiv will continue to receive free meals until the end of the school year. The possibility of providing free lunches to high school students at the expense of the state budget is also being considered. In total, 7,749 students, or 21% of the total number of schoolchildren, are already receiving meals at the expense of the local budget.
In addition, Mykolaiv is in the process of arranging shelters in schools and kindergartens to allow as many children as possible to return to full-time education. There are safe shelters in 64 educational institutions, and another 5 kindergartens and 3 schools are ready for use, but are currently waiting for water purification systems to be installed.
