Modular schools opened in Mykolaiv region for war-affected communities

The savED Charitable Foundation, in partnership with IREX and with funding from the United States, has opened modular temporary educational spaces in the Pervomaiska and Shevchenkivska communities in Mykolaiv Oblast. These spaces will allow more than five hundred children to return to full-time education.
This was reported by the press service of the New Ukrainian School.
Temporary educational spaces (TES) were created from modular structures in communities where schools have been destroyed by Russian aggression or need to be expanded due to an increase in the number of students, including IDPs.

The Pervomaisk community, which in 2022 was on the line of hostilities and suffered significant damage, including the loss of its hub lyceum, received a new modular space. The new space will allow 220 students to return to offline classes, and a shelter has been set up nearby. In the Shevchenkivska community, part of which has been under occupation for a long time, the modular TOP will help organize education for about 300 students from five settlements.
According to the press service, the classrooms are barrier-free, modern spaces with comfortable furniture, tablets, interactive panels, inclusive restrooms, server rooms, and teacher's rooms. The entrance is equipped with a ramp, and alternative energy sources ensure operation even during power outages. Their installation takes about two months.

In addition to the Pervomaisk and Shevchenkivska communities, the foundations have created four such spaces in other affected regions. According to Hanna Novosad, co-founder of the savED Charitable Foundation, in 2024, more than a thousand children returned to offline learning in their communities thanks to the TOPs. These spaces are not just temporary classrooms, but high-quality inclusive schools with constant access to the Internet.
The TOPs also organize extracurricular clubs, workshops, media literacy trainings, mine safety courses, career counseling, and other activities for children's development.

IREX project manager Yulia Tkachuk emphasized that such modular spaces are becoming not only educational but also community centers for communities where young people can stay and develop.
In addition, four modern shelters in kindergartens are being completed in Mykolaiv, one of which has already received its first pupils. The total cost of the project exceeds UAH 45 million.
