Educational underground space created in Mykolaiv

Another educational institution in the Ingul district of Mykolaiv received a modern, equipped shelter. This will allow the school's students to return to full-fledged offline learning.
This was announced by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.
The new 233 m² shelter is designed for the safe stay of 384 people. The premises have undergone major repairs, during which the contractors increased the height of the walls and completely renovated the floor and ceiling, providing comfortable zoning.
The protective space is divided into separate classrooms that have everything students need to continue their studies even during the air raid. The conditions are as safe and comfortable as possible: there are sanitary rooms, including for children with special educational needs, a medical center, backup power and drinking water supplies. The shelter also has two entrances, one of which is specially equipped with a lift for people in wheelchairs.
The construction of this facility was made possible through the cooperation of the SavED Charitable Foundation and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) with financial support from the Kingdom of Denmark. This is not the first joint project of the donors: earlier they helped to equip a shelter in one of the kindergartens and also renovated the largest protective space in one of the city's gymnasiums.
As a reminder, the term of office of the Danish Ambassador to Ukraine, Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, ends on September 30. On this occasion, Mykolaiv honored the diplomat with the award - the Mykolaiv City Badge of Honor.
The presentation took place on September 24 during a farewell reception hosted by the Ambassador. The award was presented by Deputy Mayor Sergiy Korenev. This award is intended for those who are not residents of the city but have made a significant contribution to its development and assistance since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
Ambassador Mikkelsen emphasized that he sees this award as a recognition of the strong partnership between Denmark and Ukraine, which has developed intensively since 2022. Ole Egberg Mikkelsen has also received awards from Mykolaiv Regional Council and the State Emergency Service, and last month he was awarded the Order of Merit II degree from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
