Mykolaiv City Council has updated its Development Program for 2024-2026. According to the program, it is planned to build new protective facilities in kindergartens and schools and modernize the city's infrastructure.
This is evidenced by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Mykolaiv City Council.
On November 27, 2024, the Executive Committee of the Mykolaiv City Council decided to submit an updated draft Program of Economic and Social Development of the City for 2024-2026 to the City Council.
These changes include:
- New measures in the field of budget policy, including the allocation of subventions for joint social, infrastructure, and economic projects between the city and district budgets.
- Implementation of a number of investment projects, including the construction of shelters in educational institutions, the construction of a children's diagnostic center, and infrastructure modernization.
Two new items are added to the Budget Policy section to help improve the quality of services for city residents.
Key investment objects include:
- Civil defense protective structures in kindergartens, gymnasiums and lyceums.
- A children's diagnostic center with a protective shelter.
- New construction of a boiler house for school No. 29.
Construction is planned for kindergartens No. 65 and No. 75, nursery school No. 126, gymnasium No. 14, lyceum No. 8, gymnasium No. 18, gymnasium No. 33, lyceum "Academy of Children's Creativity" and gymnasium No. 10.
The updated program is aimed at ensuring safety and improving living conditions for Mykolaiv residents, taking into account current challenges and needs.
As of today, 22 kindergartens and 31 schools in the city have been equipped with shelters. The protective structures at 13 kindergartens and 13 schools are currently under repair. The goal is to launch offline education wherever possible. This will allow parents to send their children to the nearest schools and also leave room for hybrid learning.
To create a safe environment in schools and kindergartens, as part of the updated education program for 2025-2027, Mykolaiv provided educational institutions with autonomous power supplies and set up special safety classes in six schools.
In September, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated UAH 550 million from the budget to equip school shelters in Mykolaiv Oblast. In total, the government has allocated about UAH 5 billion to build shelters in schools in eight regions.
Mykolaiv region was one of the regions that suffered the most destruction due to Russian aggression. Both civilian and critical infrastructure, including educational institutions, have suffered significant damage. The educational process has moved to an online format. However, there was a need to resume regular education, so the region began building and repairing shelters for children.
Intent has investigated how many protective structures are ready in the city and region, as well as which companies are contracted to build and repair shelters for educational institutions.
