Mykolaivvodokanal and the Port of "Pivdennyi" Have Been Designated as Monopolies

The number of natural monopolies in Ukraine has increased—over the past two years, their number has risen by 3%. Among the new entries in the registry in the south are the "Pivdennyi" seaport and "Mykolaivvodokanal."
This is according to data from OpenDataBot.
According to the Antimonopoly Committee, there are currently over 3,700 natural monopolies in Ukraine. The registry is constantly updated.
Among the companies newly added to the registry in May 2026, the“Pivdennyi” Sea Trade Port reported the highest revenue—3.2 billion hryvnias.
"Mykolaivvodokanal" was also included in the list of natural monopolies, with revenue of 431.5 million hryvnias.
Another newcomer was “Khmelnytskyi Vodokanal,” with revenue of 385.4 million hryvnias.
While there were 3,630 monopolies in the registry at the end of 2023, that number had risen to 3,736 by December 2025. Although new monopolies emerged this year as well, the registry has shrunk slightly overall—as of the end of May 2026, it includes 3,730 companies.
Energoatom remains the undisputed leader among natural monopolies, with annual revenue of 254.7 billion hryvnias.
In second placeis Ukrenergo with 107.7 billion hryvnias in revenue, and in third place is Ukrnafta with nearly 99.6 billion hryvnias.
Ukrzaliznytsia and Ukrgazvydobuvannya also made it into the top five.
One in three natural monopolies in Ukraine operates in the field of centralized water supply, while another third is involved in both water supply and wastewater disposal.
Another 27% of the entries in the registry are companies that transport thermal energy through main and local networks.
A single monopoly may cover several areas of activity at once.
97% of natural monopolies in Ukraine are companies, numbering 3,607.
The share of sole proprietors is minimal—only 123, or 3%.
Most often, monopolies are held by municipal enterprises—2,048, or 57% of the total. Another 22% are limited liability companies.
The largest number of natural monopolies is registered in the Odesa region —366 entities, or 10% of the total. Next are the Poltava region with 337 companies and the Kyiv region, where nearly 298 monopolies operate.
