The mayor's office is thinking about increasing compensation for the cost of generators for condominiums

Members of the Odesa City Council are discussing the possibility of increasing the amount that the council can allocate to condominium associations and housing cooperatives as compensation for the cost of purchased generators.

This was reported by Oleksiy Asaulenko, a deputy of the Odesa City Council and member of the Standing Committee on Housing and Communal Services, on the air of Intent.Insight.

He reminded that since 2022, the city has been operating a compensation program for the purchase of generators, which provides that the city council can compensate 70% of the cost of generators purchased by condominiums in non-cash starting from February 24, 2022. Provided that the amount of compensation does not exceed UAH 100 thousand.

"Last winter, more than 55 condominiums received compensation, and then it went quiet. And we realize that this is not a sufficient amount. 100 thousand is not enough to buy a generator that would be really useful. We need it to draw water, heat, elevators, and now we are discussing the possibility of increasing this amount," the MP said.

He also emphasized that the municipality has not received any applications for such compensation this year.

The mayor's office is also currently discussing the possibility of joining the Grindim program launched by the Energy Efficiency Fund, which provides condominiums with compensation of up to UAH 1 million for the installation of solar power plants and up to UAH 2 million for the installation of heat pumps for heating.

"We are now considering the possibility that under this program, condominiums would receive compensation for 70% of the cost of installing solar panels and another 10-15 percent to be compensated by the city council, and then people would only have to raise 10-20% there. I have already talked to my colleagues and if we do this, it will be really good," he said.

However, as the deputy noted, it is possible that a pilot project will be proposed first to understand the effectiveness of this. A draft decision on this issue is planned to be prepared for the next session of the city council in September.

The procedure for compensation for the cost of conventional generators provides for partial compensation for the cost of purchasing electric generators in apartment buildings with three or more floors for condominium associations and housing cooperatives in Odesa.

The generator must be purchased during the period of martial law. Participants pay for the purchase of power generators through banking institutions.

The requirements for an electric generator for which compensation is provided are as follows:

• For buildings with an individual heating point, water pumps, or elevators, the nominal power must be 5 kW or more.
• For buildings without elevators and individual heating stations - rated power from 3 kW.
