In the first nine months of 2024, Odesa seaports showed a significant increase in cargo turnover.
According to the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority", 74 million tons of cargo passed through the ports from January to September 2024. This is significant progress compared to the same period last year, when only 41.1 million tons were handled.
The USPA noted that agricultural products made a particularly significant contribution, amounting to 46.3 million tons. This emphasizes its key role in the country's economy and exports.
September 2024 was also productive: 7 million tons of cargo were handled in ports, which is almost twice as much as in September 2023 (3.4 million tons). The agricultural sector is once again in the lead, as 4.1 million tons of agricultural products were delivered to international markets in September.
Earlier, the military reported an increase in the capacity of the Ukrainian sea corridor over the past six months.
Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk noted that there is currently no danger of remote mining.
According to him, one of the main achievements of Ukraine is the withdrawal of the Russian fleet to Novorossiysk. At the same time, the change of the Russian commander of the Azov-Black Sea region is significant.
On July 1, Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria began jointly searching for mines in the Black Sea to improve the safety of shipping, including the export of Ukrainian grain from the ports of the Greater Odesa region.
Despite Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria's membership in NATO, their naval forces are outside of NATO, in part to avoid escalating tensions with Russia.
Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey signed an agreement on Thursday, January 11, to establish a coalition to clear the Black Sea of mines. The coalition's activities will be exclusively peaceful.
