Members of the commission on education, sports and interaction with public organizations agreed to increase spending on repairs to educational institutions affected by Russian shelling.
The Department of Education and Science of the City Council proposed the relevant changes to the Odesa Education Development Program for 2023-2025.
According to Olena Buynevych, the director of the department, the changes are that several points of the program have been reduced, but in general, they will increase by UAH 2 million 396,500. The main item is the overhaul of buildings, premises and communications of educational institutions, and here the department has requested an amendment to the program, which allows spending money not only on overhaul but also on current repairs.
"During arrivals, we have needs not only for major repairs, but also for routine repairs. For example, we are currently repairing Lyceum School No. 125 and School No. 43, where windows have broken and we need to make slopes and other cosmetic procedures that do not fall under the classification of capital repairs," the official said.
At the same time, she said, thanks to the tenders, it was possible to save UAH 2 million 45.6 thousand on repairs, but still an increase in spending by UAH 8 million is needed to eliminate the consequences of the Russian strike at school No. 125.
"Thus, in total, the increase in expenditures under this item of the program reaches UAH 5 million 824.4 thousand. The facade, walls, ceilings, roof, and finishes of three floors of school No. 125 were damaged. We need to replace 30 doors, 120 windows and furniture," said Ms. Buynevych.
School No. 125 was damaged as a result of a missile attack on Odesa on the night of November 8. Then Russian troops massively attacked Odesa and its suburbs with kamikaze drones. One person was killed and 9 others were injured in the attack. Residential buildings were damaged in the private sector. A fire broke out in two residential buildings.
The school building was fully repaired before the full-scale invasion.
