The National Bank of Ukraine has submitted a package of bills to the Verkhovna Rada to change the name of the Ukrainian coin. Danylo Hetmantsev published the document on his Telegram channel.
NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi asked Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk to initiate the submission of the drafted proposals to the Parliament.
The letter addressed to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada reads in part: "We would be grateful for your personal assistance in restoring historical justice and cleansing Ukraine's monetary sovereignty of any affinity with Moscow. We are confident that together we will be able to restore the unjustly forgotten Ukrainian name for the change coin "shag" and pass on to our descendants an original monetary system that is truly independent of Russian influence. The NBU plans to mint 20 million coins in 2025. And it is up to us to decide whether these will be Soviet kopecks or our Ukrainian SHAHs!"
A package of documents is attached to the letter:
- Draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Changing the Name of the Ukrainian Currency," comparative table to the Draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Changing the Name of the Ukrainian Currency," explanatory note to the Draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Changing the Name of the Ukrainian Currency."

We remind you that on October 3, a commemorative coin was put into circulation in Ukraine. According to the NBU press service, the coin is dedicated to an extraordinary event on the world sports stage: in May 2024, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk became the absolute world heavyweight champion for the first time in the last quarter century and united four belts at once, which became a powerful charge of motivation for every Ukrainian. It is noted that this coin, which was named"Absolute", was presented on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine by NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi together with Ukrainian boxer, absolute world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The event was also attended by fourth- and fifth-year cadets of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
