Estonia expresses readiness to help restore Ukraine's port

Deputy Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Tymur Tkachenko discussed an initiative launched under the Bilateral Security Agreement between Ukraine and Estonia with Kaupo Lanerand, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Climate of the Republic of Estonia for Maritime Affairs and Water Resources.

The agreement signed earlier identified the restoration of Ukraine's strategic infrastructure as one of the key areas of cooperation between the two countries. The UA Maritime Recovery Plan aims not only to support Ukraine's economy but also to strengthen its defense capabilities, especially in wartime.
The plan provides for financial and technical assistance aimed at restoring port infrastructure, shipbuilding and ship repair industries, modernizing the merchant fleet, and providing equipment and vessels. Special emphasis is placed on the introduction of the latest technologies, organization of training programs and exchange of experience between Ukrainian and Estonian specialists.
Meanwhile, according to preliminary data, in 2024, exports from Ukraine increased by at least 13.4% in monetary terms and by 28.8% in weight. As of December 26, Ukraine exported 129.2 million tons of goods worth 41.4 billion US dollars. At the same time, in 2023, 100.3 million tons were exported for USD 36.1 billion.
Outside of the EU, Ukraine's key trading partners in exports in 2024 were:
- China (2.3 billion dollars);
- Turkey (2.1 billion dollars);
- Egypt ($1.6 billion);
- India ($986 million);
- Moldova ($935 million).
The leader in exports in 2024 was sunflower oil, a processed product that was exported for more than $5 billion. Other processed products were also exported:
- Sunflower meal - for more than $1 billion;
- Poultry meat - for $945 million dollars;
- sugar - for $408 million dollars;
- soybean oil - for $311 million.
Metallurgical exports are reviving. In 2024, Ukraine exported $927.5 million worth of semi-finished iron products, $802 million worth of hot-rolled steel, $500 million worth of pig iron, and $577 million worth of pipes.
