Cost of living: inflation in the consumer market has increased in Mykolaiv region

In Mykolaiv region, prices in the consumer sector increased. Overall in Ukraine, prices rose by 1.5 percent in September, and by 6.5 percent since the beginning of 2024.
This is evidenced by data from the Main Department of Statistics in Mykolaiv region.
Inflation in the consumer market in the region in September compared to August 2024 amounted to 1.5%, and since the beginning of the year - 7.3%.
In September this year, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 2.1%. Eggs rose the most significantly - by 11.8%. There was also an increase in prices for milk, butter, sunflower oil, wheat flour, fruit, meat and meat products, bread, dairy products, pasta, and cheese, which rose by 5.9-1.0%. At the same time, prices for buckwheat decreased by 1.5%, sugar by 0.7%, and vegetables by 0.5%.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products became more expensive by 1.0% (tobacco by 1.2%, alcohol by 0.8%). Prices for clothing and footwear increased by 8.2%, including winter goods: clothing by 9.0% and footwear by 7.6%.
The cost of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels increased by 0.3%, mainly due to a 30.4% increase in tariffs for cleaning and garbage collection.
In the transportation sector, prices increased by 0.4%, mainly due to a 10.4% rise in the price of liquefied petroleum gas for cars and a 1.7% rise in the price of tires for passenger cars. However, intercity train fares fell by 3.4%. The cost of educational services increased by 15.7%, with higher education fees rising by 22.1%.
In August, inflation increased by 0.6%. Prices rose for some food and beverages. On the contrary, prices for fruit declined. In transportation, prices rose by 0.5%, driven by higher prices for lubricants (by 7.2%) and liquefied gas (by 5.1%), as well as transportation services (by 3.4%) and car maintenance (by 3.2%).
In June 2024, consumer prices in Mykolaiv region increased by 2.9% compared to May. The month-on-month jump was primarily driven by an increase in electricity tariffs.
Despite the steady rise in prices, pensions in Ukraine remain at a lower level. Only 43% of pensioners in Ukraine receive payments of less than $100. More than half of them live on 2,760 hryvnias a month. Pensioners in Kyiv receive the highest pensions, while those in the western regions receive the lowest.
Among the southern regions, the highest pension is in Odesa region - 5,596 hryvnias. In Mykolaiv region, it is UAH 5,516, and in Kherson region, it is UAH 4,954.
