During the year, Ukraine suffered enormous losses due to Russian attacks on the ports of Odesa region. They are estimated at more than $1.5 billion.
This was announced by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, during a briefing.
Marchuk noted that since August last year, attacks on the port infrastructure of Greater Odesa have led to significant losses, including damage to port infrastructure and the destruction of raw materials such as sunflower oil and grain stored in these ports.
"If we are talking about the directions that were observed with the export of Ukrainian products and the direct strikes that were inflicted on the ports of Greater Odesa since August last year, then today such losses exceed more than $1.5 billion," he said.
The official emphasized that these losses affect business, which is forced to look for new ways to protect and compensate for losses.
In this regard, according to Mr. Marchuk, it is extremely important for the government and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to ensure the continuation of the 5.7.9 program, which is an effective tool to support farmers.
He reminded that the program expires in March 2025, and it is important that it continues, and its limits, in particular the increased limits for by-products producers, are redirected to support grain producers.
On the night of July 24, the south of Odesa region was subjected to a large-scale attack by Russian drones. As a result of enemy shelling by 11 Shahed-136 kamikaze drones in Vilkovo, port infrastructure facilities were damaged and a private house was hit. Two people were injured.
