On October 11, 2024, on the Day of Logistics Specialists of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation a new commemorative coin "Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine".
This was reported by the regulator's press service.
The new coin continues the Armed Forces of Ukraine series and is dedicated to military logisticians who create a strong rear for Ukrainian soldiers and ensure uninterrupted supply of everything necessary for the defenders of Ukraine.
The circulating commemorative coin "Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" has a face value of 10 hryvnias and is made of a zinc-based alloy with a nickel coating.
The obverse of the coin is identical to the obverse of the 10 hryvnia circulating coin of 2018. It features the coin denomination, mintage year and the State Emblem of Ukraine in the center, framed by an ancient Russian ornament.
The reverse of the coin bears the following inscriptions: "STEEL MIGHT, INDOMITABLE WILL!" and "LOGISTICS FORCES OF THE ARMED FORCES OF UKRAINE". The main element of the composition is the image of the beret badge of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, based on a stylized outline of a fortress with four bastions, on which are superimposed crossed swords with the handles downward with blades turning into ears of wheat, and the rod of Mercury, located vertically. The background of the coin is schematically depicted with topographic maps.
Like all other circulating coins of Ukraine, the commemorative coin "Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" is obligatory for acceptance at its face value for all types of cash payments and crediting accounts.
The NBU will gradually supply banks and IT companies that provide collection services with commemorative coins for further distribution to customers. The NBU will accept such coins from customers as ordinary circulating coins with a face value of UAH 10. Gradually, almost 10 million pieces of such commemorative coins will be put into cash circulation.
On the same day, October 11, the National Bank of Ukraine submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a package of bills to change the name of the Ukrainian coin. Danylo Hetmantsev published the document on his Telegram channel.
The letter addressed to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada reads: "We will be grateful for your personal assistance in restoring historical justice and cleansing Ukraine's monetary sovereignty from the slightest affinity with Moscow. We are confident that together we will be able to restore the unjustly forgotten Ukrainian name for the change coin "shag" and pass on to our descendants an original monetary system that is truly independent of Russian influence. The NBU plans to mint 20 million coins in 2025. And it is up to us to decide whether these will be Soviet kopecks or our Ukrainian SHAGs!"
