Farmer from Mykolaiv region to stand trial for land pollution

In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers have completed an investigation into the director of an agricultural company that allowed long-term environmental pollution by livestock waste. The entrepreneur deliberately ignored environmental standards and refused to install modern treatment facilities to save money.

Due to the systematic disregard for sanitary standards, the farm's waste was disposed of directly into the ground instead of being properly treated. Laboratory tests confirmed large-scale soil contamination, which not only caused a stench but also jeopardized the quality of drinking water for the surrounding villages.
The Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has already taken the case to court. The farmer is accused of polluting and spoiling the land. Law enforcers are demanding not only punishment but also full compensation for damages, as restoring the ecosystem will cost more than it would have cost to modernize the equipment in time.
This case sends a signal to farmers who mistakenly believe that environmental violations will go unnoticed during the war. Currently, the head of the company faces a large fine or even imprisonment, and the community of the region is closely monitoring the process, demanding protection of the purity of its land and water.
Earlier, 40 greenhouses were installed for IDPs in the Tyahyn community in Kherson Oblast. This will allow people who were forced to leave their homes to resume self-sufficiency in food and possibly get a source of income.
Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, reviewed the results of this project to support agricultural self-employment in the Tyahyn community, confirming the importance of the initiative.
Each of the 40 greenhouses provided to internally displaced persons has an area of 100 square meters and is fully equipped with an irrigation system. In addition, the benefactors provided the IDPs with the necessary seeds and fertilizers so that they could immediately start their own business and ensure their food independence.
This project was implemented with the support of the local authorities, the Kherson Regional Development Agency, and, to answer the previous question, the Ranok Vidrodzhennia charitable foundation. Oleksandr Prokudin emphasized that the success of the initiative is planned to be scaled up to create an agricultural service cooperative. This step is intended to open up new opportunities for sustainable development of the community and the agricultural sector of the region as a whole.
