An earthquake struck near Odesa region

The Romanian National Institute for Research and Development in Earth Physics (INCDFP) recorded an earthquake in the Vrancha zone near the border of Odesa region.
This was reported by the press service of the institute.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale occurred at a depth of 16 kilometers near the following cities: 45 kilometers south of Fokshan, 51 kilometers south of Buzau, 72 kilometers southeast of Sfantu Gheorghe, 79 kilometers east of Brasov, 85 kilometers northeast of Ploesti.
The Vrancea seismic zone is one of the most active and dangerous seismic zones in Europe. It is located in the Carpathian Mountains, in the east of Romania, mainly within the Vranca County, which gave this geological area its name. Vranca is capable of generating strong earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 7. Due to its great depth, tremors are often felt over large areas: in Romania itself, Moldova, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Odesa region in particular.
In October 2025, the National Institute for Research and Development in Earth Physics (INCDFP) recorded eight earthquakes in Romania near the border of Odesa region, mostly in the Vrancea zone, on October 22-25. Prior to that, a series of earthquakes occurred in Romania near the border of Odesa region, mostly in the Vrancea zone, during the week of October 13-20. There were eight in total. One each occurred on October 19, 17, 16, and 15, and two on October 14, and before that, two earthquakes occurred in the evening of October 12 and in the morning of October 13 in the Vrancea seismic zone and were felt in Odesa region. The previous earthquake in this zone occurred on June 23. Then the magnitude reached four. That earthquake occurred at a depth of 125.3 kilometers.
