Odesa municipal services continue to clean up rainwater inlets, bus stop complexes and designated areas to eliminate the effects of the bad weather that raged in the city on September 30.

This was reported by the press service of the Odesa City Council.

As of 9:00 a.m. on October 5, traffic was hampered on sections of Baltska Road and Odaria streets in the port area. Also, according to DTEK Odesa Power Grids, during the day on October 4, electricians restored power to 27.7 thousand families in 76 settlements of Odesa region after the bad weather. As of 18:30, another 9.2 thousand families in 20 towns and villages remained without power.

Earlier, a government commission counted 800 houses in Odesa affected by the flooding, including 300 private houses and 500 apartment buildings.

Law enforcers have started inspections and investigations at the offices of Odesa municipality and district administrations as part of criminal proceedings under Article 367, part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligence that caused death).

On October 3, the Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies (TES&E) at the Odesa City Council identified the districts and streets of the city that are at the highest risk of flooding following the September 30 floods.

In the event of a downpour, Odesa residents were advised not to stay in basements and semi-basements. Homeowners associations of apartment buildings with underground parking lots were ordered to close access in case of a threat. Residents of the private sector should be prepared to evacuate at the first request of rescuers. If there is a risk of flooding, citizens were advised to leave their homes in advance and contact district administrations. Avoid lowlands, ravines and open spaces during heavy rains.

October 2 was declared a day of mourning in Odesa.
