Scythian mound in Odesa region turned into a landfill

The Scythian mound in Odesa region is turning into a natural landfill due to the negligence of local residents. Utilities clean up the waste, but without community involvement, the problem recurs.
This was reported by the Artsyzka community.
Recently, large volumes of household and construction waste left by local residents were found near the mound. According to the community, employees of the utility company regularly clean up such landfills, but they appear again.
This is a complete disregard for the history and nature of their native land. The communal movement alone is not enough - it is up to each of us to preserve the beauty of our land," the post says.
Residents are urged to report facts of littering and violations of landscaping rules to the hotline. The community is reminded that littering is not only disrespectful to the environment, but also an offense. According to the rules of landscaping and Article 152 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, such actions are subject to administrative fines: for citizens - from UAH 340 to UAH 1,360, for officials and entrepreneurs - from UAH 850 to UAH 1,700.

The Artsyzka community emphasized that residents should take care of their land, not pollute the environment, and work together to preserve nature and history for future generations.
In early August, prosecutors from the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office served a notice of suspicion on the director of a collective enterprise that operates a solid waste landfill in Izmail district, Odesa region. He is accused of large-scale land contamination with toxic waste.

At the same time, Odesa region was ranked eighth among the regions of Ukraine with the lowest level of hazardous waste generation by businesses. In 2024, the region's enterprises declared 3,787 tons of such waste, submitting 634 reports to the Ministry. For comparison, 28,288 tons were recorded in Mykolaiv region, and only 11 tons in Kherson region.
In total, businesses generated more than 592 thousand tons of hazardous waste across the country last year. Most of them are generated by the non-metallic industry, medical facilities, and the agricultural sector.
