In the evening of June 30, more than 50 fires were registered in the Mykolaiv region with a total area of over 400 hectares.
According to Mykolaiv's State Emergency Service, three large-scale fires were raging in the city at the time, with the fire approaching the residential sector due to gusty winds.
"In the Ternivka neighborhood, where the approximate area is 10 hectares, the flames managed to damage 2 residential buildings and 3 outbuildings," the rescuers added.
Firefighters are taking measures to control the situation at all sites, but strong gusty winds are making it difficult to extinguish the fire. Due to the difficult operational situation, even the reserve units' guard teams have been put on alert.
"Duty and reserve teams are involved in extinguishing the fire, and water trucks are being used. Firefighters from local fire brigades are assisting, and local businesses are providing special equipment and a water truck," the emergency service said.
As of 22:30, the fires in open areas in the city were extinguished. The rescuers were still dousing the fires and inspecting the area for some time to prevent re-ignition.
The causes and consequences of the fires are under investigation.
Earlier, 29 ecosystem fires occurred in Mykolaiv region, destroying more than 140 hectares of wheat and dozens of hectares of dead wood. The largest fire engulfed fields in the village of Myroliubivka, while other incidents were recorded in Snihurivka and Porichchia, where the fire reached residential buildings and farmland.
Recently, a teenager from Mykolaiv region was awarded one of the first special awards for his heroic actions during the fire. A short circuit caused a fire in the room where his six-year-old brother was staying, and Dmytro Amalskyi, hearing the screams, immediately rushed to help.
