At the Central Market of Mykolaiv, environmentalists found snowdrops being sold together with bulbs, which is a violation of the law. The seller was fined.
This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.
They noted that the seller was brought to administrative responsibility under Article 88-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.
The State Environmental Inspectorate warned that the purchase or sale of primroses listed in the Red Book of Ukraine is punishable by a fine of UAH 1.7 to 3.7 thousand with confiscation of the plants.
Environmentalists are urged not to buy snowdrops.
"Do not buy snowdrops. They are beautiful in the forests, not in a vase. Snowdrops are a symbol of the awakening of nature, not a commodity for making money. Their true beauty is in freedom," the statement reads.
With the onset of spring in Ukraine, interest in early flowers, such as snowdrops and other primroses, traditionally grows. However, many of these plants are endangered and listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, making their collection, sale and purchase illegal.
The list of spring flowers whose collection, sale and purchase are prohibited includes:
- snowdrops
- snowdrops
- saffron (crocuses)
- sleeping grass;
- snowdrops.
Earlier, Intent wrote that in the city of Pivdenoukrainsk, Mykolaiv region, eco-raids began, as a result of which two people were fined for selling primroses.
A resident of Mykolaiv also faces three years in prison for poaching. Police exposed a man who was illegally fishing on the Ingul River with prohibited gear. While patrolling the city limits, inspectors of the police unit noticed a fisherman on the water who was using a spinning rod with a barbed hook and was using a prohibited fishing method - barging.
