Environmentalists counted 57 million in damage to Mykolaiv region's environment from shelling

The amount of damage caused to the environment of Mykolaiv region as a result of Russian shelling exceeded UAH 57 million. This data was made public by environmental inspectors after making the relevant calculations.
This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwest District.
The greatest damage was caused by a fire at an agricultural enterprise, where 954 tons of fuel and lubricants were burned as a result of the hit. This resulted in the release of over 3,000 tons of pollutants into the atmosphere, and the damage caused by this incident is estimated at UAH 56 million.
Another incident occurred in late October in Mykolaiv district. The shelling of a transformer substation led to the ignition of almost 60 tons of oil. As a result, more than 205 tons of harmful compounds were released into the air, causing damage worth more than UAH 1 million.
Environmentalists emphasize that such fires are accompanied by massive emissions of toxic substances, including sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, heavy metals and carcinogens. Such pollution not only worsens air quality but also poses long-term threats to human health. The damage assessment was based on site surveys and data from the affected businesses.
As a reminder, the Kinburn Spit in Mykolaiv region remains a zone of constant shelling, where the occupiers are trying to hold their positions, while Ukrainian troops are rejecting them. Due to the large-scale destruction, it will take many years to restore nature and the protected area.
Birds that feel threatened have left the area, and the return of flora and fauna is possible only after the gradual restoration of vegetation.
In addition, the coast and water area of the estuary are contaminated with wreckage, explosives and fuel. The spokesperson emphasized that the destruction of nature and human settlements is a typical method of Russian troops. According to him, any conflict with Moscow turns into a "scorched earth" when the territory is used as a training ground.
