At the end of August this year, a petition to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to save the Kuyalnyk Estuary was posted on the government portal.

The authors of the petition drew attention to the critical condition of the estuary and the fact that it is drying up catastrophically fast. Is this really true? Do we know what we can lose, what is the value of the Kuyalnik estuary? And do we have a chance to save this natural treasure? We asked the experts in Accent about the Kuyalnyk Estuary.

"It would take more than an hour to discuss the medicinal properties of the estuary, but in short, an organic-mineral matrix with a unique biota has been formed here for centuries. There is bromine, iodine, calcium and magnesium, which has a positive effect on the neuromuscular system and the musculoskeletal system," said Vladyslav Mykhailenko, PhD in ecology.

According to the head of the Green Sheet organization, Vladyslav Balynkyi, the drying up of the estuary is caused by the devastation of the poems of the rivers that feed it, illegal sand mining, and illegal dams on such rivers.

As for the petitions, Vladyslav Balynskyi believes that they are populist in nature, and statements about solving the problem are linked to the allocation of resources for this solution.
