Teenagers in Mykolaiv region make a movie about a fallen pilot

Teenagers from Lotskyne, Mykolaiv region, paid tribute to the fallen pilot by making a documentary about his heroic deeds. The film combines eyewitness accounts, family memories, and footage of the village, preserving the memory of the tragedy and the hero's courage.

In the village of Lotskyne in Mykolaiv region, a team of teenagers created a documentary short film "The Last Takeoff" dedicated to pilot Vadym Moroz. The pilot died in 2022 while flying a plane away from the village, thus saving the villagers and their homes. The film is 27 minutes long.
A team of ten teenagers worked on the film as part of the UAactive program. Teacher Iryna Boyko, who coordinated the work, noted that this was their first amateur project, but it is very valuable because it preserves the true story and leaves a mark on the heart.
Ihor, a teenager, was in charge of editing and sound engineering. He said he worked on the movie for three nights in a row, combining his studies at the NMT with editing. Initially, they planned to make the movie 15 minutes long, but there was much more material, and they didn't want to cut anything.
The film's producer, Anastasia, added that the film contains footage of the village, interviews with local residents who were at the scene, as well as personal memories of the pilot's life - interviews with his wife and brother, children's and family moments. According to the producer, the goal of the project is to engrave in the memory the image of a hero who gave his life for his country.
The team received $5,000 to implement the project as part of the UAactive program. The funds were used to open a school cinema and purchase tripods and microphones for filming. The teacher noted that the cinema has become a place where children can realize their ideas and create without fear of expressing their opinions.
The project was mentored by Ukrainian filmmaker Olha Zhurba, and Khrystyna Kashchuk, head of the youth department at SavEd, emphasized that the work on the film shows what the future of the country can be like with such sincere and empathetic children.
The teenagers plan to dedicate their next documentary to a teacher who was tortured by the Russian military during the occupation.
Also on January 17, the new Odesa-based project Let's See organized a special screening of the documentary Cuba and Alaska, which was preceded by a video message from the film 's protagonist, Yulia "Cuba" Sidorova.
