Ministry of Justice excludes Pushkin in Tatarbunary from the list of monuments

The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has included the monument to poet Alexander Pushkin in the town of Tatarbunary, Odesa region, in the list of objects that are not subject to entry in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.
This was reported by the organization "Decolonization. Ukraine, noting that now there are no excuses for preserving the sculpture.
Also, the register will not include the monument - "The historical place where Pushkin stayed" in Tatarbunary and where the monument itself is installed. The fact is that in Tatarbunary there is actually a memorial complex dedicated to the poet, created in the 70s of the last century. According to a legend based on the records of the poet's friend Ivan Liprandi, it was at this place that Pushkin rested on his way to Tuchkovo (then known as Izmail) and, according to one version, began writing his poem "To Ovid" there. The fact is that there are springs of drinking water at this place, and Pushkin allegedly went down to drink from them.
Also not included in the register is a sculpture of Suvorov in the village of Katlabug, Izmail district, Odesa region.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has also included a monument to Alexander II in Odesa in the list of cultural heritage sites that are not subject to entry in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine. Alexander's Column in Odesa is a monument column erected in May 1891 on the very spot where the city authorities received Emperor Alexander II in 1875, for which the Tsar's Pavilion was built, where the monarch gave permission to establish a park named after him and planted the first tree.
In November 2025, historical monuments in the Odesa region lost their protected status, paving the way for their possible dismantling. The decision concerns monuments associated with the Russian imperial and Soviet eras. At the same time, the dismantling of the monument to Alexander Pushkin was temporarily suspended in Odesa. The mayor's office explains that the monument is located within the historic center of the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is listed as endangered.
