Exhibition on the birthday of Odesa artist opened in the dark

On February 1, 2026, an exhibition of Odesa artist Dmytro Velychko opened in the dark due to a power outage.
However, an Int' l correspondent waited for the power to come back on and took photos.
February 1 is a special day for the artist, his birthday, and the exhibition was held at the Victory Gardens shopping and entertainment center. According to the artist himself, the exhibition presents works for less than 19 years. The exhibition will be open every day and the paintings are freely available for viewing.
Dmytro Velychko is an artist and dean of the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts at the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushynsky. He is also the head of the Motivator NGO and the Power of Ukrainian Art Charitable Organization. According to him, most of his works are paintings that he created while studying at the faculty.
In April 2025, Dmytro Velychko gave an interview to the Intent. In it, he spoke about contemporary students, artist diplomas, the isolation of Odesa artists and institutions. He also talked about the difference in colors, images of artists, art for oneself, and stereotypes about artists.
Since 2012, he has been a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts of the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts of the National Pedagogical University of Ukraine (theory and practice of drawing, theory and practice of painting, theory and practice of composition, educational (artistic and creative) practice). In 2015, he became the deputy dean of the faculty. Currently, he is the dean.
Also in 2012, Dmytro Velychko was admitted to the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and in 2019 he became a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. He did an internship abroad at the University of Economics in Krakow. The author's scientific achievements include 10 scientific publications on the theory and practice of painting, educational practice, 14 certificates of copyright registration for the work. Organizer of international scientific and practical conferences "Preservation and development of plein air traditions: art education and art tourism" at the Ushynsky University. Included in the publication "The Golden Fund of the Nation. Ukrainians: creativity, innovation, investment 2019".
