Europeana.eu has published 3D models of Ukrainian cultural heritage for the first time, which originate from the initiative of the Museum of Ukrainian Victory and include outdoor sculptures and cultural heritage sites from Odesa, Kherson, Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
According to the initiative's press service, the cultural heritage objects were captured using emergency photogrammetric workflows conducted by trained military correspondents, followed by 3D processing in Odesa.
These models are part of a larger collection of over 30 objects documented for the Museum of Ukrainian Victory in 2022 and early 2023.
Europeana is a European digital cultural heritage platform that enables cultural heritage institutions to share their collections with the world. As Europeana works to support Ukraine's digital cultural heritage and promote 3D in the common European data space for cultural heritage, 3D models from the Museum of Ukrainian Victory are now available online at Europeana.eu.
In April 2025, specialists from the Archaika Research Laboratory created a 3D model of the Odesa Archaeological Museum using 70 scans and 1,500 photos. The 3D model we created captured the building in its current state and will become an important tool for further research and monitoring of possible destruction.
Earlier, the Odesa Archaeological Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, together with representatives of the Archaica NGO, digitized and created 3D models of Egyptian artifacts, Cypriot sculpture, and exhibits from Samarkand for a month. The south of Ukraine - Crimea and Odesa region - will also be represented.
