The documentary film "The Danube Delta and the Healing Power of Nature" won in the "Environment" category at the Love Peace and Freedom Festival. Filming in the Ukrainian part of the delta lasted ten days.

This was reported by Rewilding Ukraine.

The film shows how nature restoration in the Ukrainian part of the river delta is helping to revitalize wetlands, wildlife, and the nearby communities. In recent years, the delta has also become a place where Ukrainian veterans can reconnect with nature and heal emotionally. This is the sixth film in the Wilder Europe series.

Filming in the Ukrainian part of the delta lasted ten days. In May 2025, the team visited Yermakiv Island, the Danube Biosphere Reserve, and the Tarutyn Steppe.

Thefilm’s director is French videographer Emmanuel Rondeau, known for his nature documentaries.

Emmanuel Rondeau is a French photographer, documentary filmmaker, and photojournalist who specializes in covering wildlife and environmental conservation. He is the founder of White Fox Pictures and regularly collaborates with international conservation organizations, including WWF.

Oleg Dyakov, head of the Rewilding Ukraine team, said that the idea to involve veterans and their families in our wildlife restoration areas, such as Yermak Island, was conceived nearly two years ago.

“I’ll never forget the reactions of one group of people when they first saw water buffalo and Konik horses in the delta. I realized that being in the wild allowed them to forget about all their problems—and that they could take home a sense of hope and peace when they left,” he noted.

Earlier in Cannes, a film project about a scientist from Odesa was presented. The story of Odesa scientist Valdemar Khavkin, who saved millions of people from cholera and the plague, will form the basis of the internationalfilm “Foreign Bodies.” A Ukrainian producer and a British-Indian director will work on the film.
