Two Russians Have Been Indicted for Torture at a Health Resort in the Kherson Region

In the Kherson region, the case of an FSB officer and a Russian soldier who tortured local residents during the occupation has been referred to court. The defendants held civilians captive in seized sanatoriums, demanding information about volunteers and Ukrainian military personnel.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office. 

The investigation notes that a 37-year-old FSB officer and a 29-year-old Russian grenadier were in the Skadovsk district in April and September 2022. They were enforcing the occupation regime.

In April 2022, the first defendant tortured a man for nearly 10 hours. The victim was detained at his place of residence and, blindfolded, was taken to a seized sanatorium in the village of Lazurne. There, he was forced to provide information about local volunteers and residents who had helped the Ukrainian military or might have been storing weapons. According to the case file, the defendant beat him, choked him, cut off his air supply, and inflicted a gunshot wound. Ultimately, the victim was released in serious condition.

In September 2022, the second defendant, along with other Russian military personnel, conducted a search of a residence in the village of Kardashinka. There, they attempted to extract information from a local resident regarding locations where alcohol was sold. When they received no answers, the Russian soldiers left the house. However, a week later, they returned, detained the civilian, and took him to a seized sanatorium in Hola Prystan. 

The victim was beaten with particular brutality for several hours and interrogated in an attempt to extract information about local ATO participants and the locations of sabotage groups. They also pressured him to cooperate.
