Seven police officers injured in terrorist attack on gas station in Mykolaiv

The explosion in Mykolaiv, which injured seven law enforcement officers, has been officially classified as a terrorist attack.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

On the evening of February 23, at about 18:10, an unknown device exploded on the territory of an idle gas station in Mykolaiv. At that moment, the facility was occupied by employees of the Patrol Police Department who had arrived for a scheduled shift change. As law enforcement officers found out, an explosive device detonated on the territory of the gas station, the origin and type of which experts are currently trying to establish.

According to the National Police, seven law enforcement officers sustained injuries of varying severity as a result of the incident. Two of them are in serious condition. In addition to human casualties, the explosion caused significant damage to nearby police vehicles. The investigative team, explosive experts and other specialized services immediately began working at the scene to collect evidence and inspect the area.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, having heard the reports of law enforcement officials, emphasized that the main version of the incident is currently a terrorist attack. He noted that all the circumstances of the incident are being investigated, and the injured patrol officers are being provided with all necessary medical care. The incident took place amid a general deterioration of the situation in the country, where the security of law enforcement officers remains critical. The explosion on the territory of an abandoned gas station indicates possible risks of sabotage, which requires immediate strengthening of security measures in Mykolaiv region.
