Russian prosecutor accused of persecuting GUR special forces officer in Crimea

A prosecutor from the Rostov region has been notified of suspicion for persecuting a Ukrainian prisoner of war for the first time. This is the case of a GUR special forces officer who was illegally convicted by the occupiers, ignoring international law.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, the prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Rostov Region of the Russian Federation was first notified of suspicion. His actions were classified as violation of the laws and customs of war.
According to the investigation, in 2024, the suspect carried out illegal criminal prosecution of a serviceman - a special forces officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who was captured off the coast of occupied Crimea.
The prosecutor of the Russian Federation completely ignored the status of the Ukrainian defender as a combatant and insisted on his conviction for alleged "terrorism", demanding the most severe punishment.
In this way, he actually demanded that the prisoner of war be held accountable for participating in an international armed conflict, which directly contradicts the norms of international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
As a result, Russian judicial authorities upheld the prosecution, found the Ukrainian special forces officer guilty and sentenced him to many years in prison for crimes he did not commit.
According to the press service, Ukrainian law enforcement officers have already served notices of suspicion to judges of the Southern District Military Court and the Military Court of Appeal of the Russian Federation involved in the issuance of illegal sentences to Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Also in March, a Ukrainian lawyer, who headed the so-called "Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Crimea" after the occupation of Crimea, was suspected of collaboration. According to the investigation, he has been heading the occupation agency for more than ten years and continues to implement the legal policy of the aggressor state.
