In Odesa, a court imposed a pre-trial restraint on a man suspected of preparing and carrying out a terrorist attack at the request of the prosecutor's office. He was taken into custody without the right to be released on bail.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to law enforcement, he is a 32-year-old resident of Odesa who was detained on the evening of February 16. According to the investigation, the man acted on the instructions of a "curator" from the aggressor country and agreed to commit a terrorist act.
During the search, evidence of his connection with the enemy was found - correspondence and instructions for making an improvised explosive device. The perpetrator was promised USD 5 thousand for completing this task, of which he has already received USD 1 thousand on his bank card.
According to the investigation, the suspect placed the explosive device under a Toyota RAV4 car. The explosion occurred on the morning of February 16, when the driver was opening the rear door of the car. As a result, a 56-year-old man was injured and is currently hospitalized.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the SBU Investigation Department in Odesa region under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist attack).
According to the investigation, the terrorist attack was prepared by a 33-year-old unemployed man recruited by the enemy, who came to the attention of racists while looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels. The suspect purchased the bomb components in hardware stores. Then he made explosives out of them, which he equipped with a cell phone for remote detonation.
During the court hearing, as Intent found out, the suspect had a drug problem and occasionally lived in Odesa. According to the investigation, it was while he was looking for a part-time job that representatives of enemy special services came across him. The man himself refused to give any comments to the judge. When the journalist asked if he regretted his actions, the suspect said he did.
A Toyota car exploded on the morning of February 16 on Akademika Korolyova Street in Odesa. A 56-year-old man was injured in the explosion. The Security Service of Ukraine classified the car explosion in the Kyiv district of Odesa as a terrorist act and opened a criminal investigation.
