In the Mykolaiv region, prosecutors have challenged the lease of a reservoir

The prosecutor’s office has filed a lawsuit seeking the return of part of the Stepivsky Reservoir in the Mykolaiv region to the state. The reservoir was illegally transferred to a businessman, allegedly with the aim of improving its ecological and hydrological condition.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. 

According to the prosecutor’s office, in 2021, the Mykolaiv Interdistrict Water Management Administration and a business entity entered into an agreement to carry out biological reclamation work on part of the reservoir. Subsequently, through a supplementary agreement to the contract, the entrepreneur was granted the right to commercially harvest and sell the caught fish. 

This created a situation in which the business operator was conducting fish farming activities without any oversight from state regulatory authorities. 

In addition, law enforcement officials discovered that the reservoir in question is a multi-purpose facility and, by law, cannot be leased at all. At the same time, the Mykolaiv Interdistrict Water Management Administration does not have the authority to grant the right to use a portion of a water body. 

As previously reported by Intent, the Beryslav District Prosecutor’s Office filed three lawsuits demanding the return to state ownership of forest land plots totaling 12.8 hectares, which, according to the investigation, were illegally transferred to municipal ownership.
