Law enforcement officials have identified and, in absentia, charged a Russian Armed Forces servicemember and three so-called law enforcement officers with torturing a Ukrainian prisoner of war in the Kherson region. The occupiers tormented the soldier for four days.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators established that on October 3, 2022, in the Beryslav area, armed Russian servicemen detained a Ukrainian soldier. He was taken to a seized industrial building, where he was illegally held for four days and interrogated.

In particular, the Russian soldiers demanded information from the Ukrainian soldier about his service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the locations of Ukrainian units. The captive was beaten with fists, feet, and rifle butts, and was also tortured with electric shocks. Metal clamps were attached to his fingers, ears, and genitals. The torture caused the man to lose consciousness.

On October 7, 2022, the prisoner was transported to Nova Kakhovka, and the next day to Chaplynka, where he continued to be held in a captured police station and beaten. In May 2023, the man was transported to Melitopol, where he remained until his release from captivity in February 2024.

As reported by Intent, journalists have identified Russian military units that may be involved in the humanitarian catastrophe in the occupied town of Oleshky on the left bank of the Kherson region.
