Fifteen Ukrainian citizens who ran in the illegal September elections to the occupying “State Duma of the Russian Federation” and the “State Council” of the peninsula have been charged. They face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property for collaboration and participating in campaigning on behalf of the hostile regime.

This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

According to the case file, 13 suspects ran for the “State Duma of the Russian Federation,” and two others ran for the illegal “State Council of Crimea.” As part of the election campaign, they organized and held public campaign events among local residents and distributed campaign materials.

Thus, according to the investigation, the suspects contributed to the consolidation of the occupying authorities and the spread of their political regime in Crimea.

The aggressor state systematically holds sham elections and “single voting days” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The main purpose of these events is to simulate democratic processes, legitimize the occupying administrations, and forcibly integrate the seized regions into the legal and political framework of the Russian Federation.

The UN General Assembly, the European Union, the United States, and other countries do not officially recognize the results of these votes and classify their organization as a gross violation of the UN Charter and Ukraine’s sovereignty. Any “electoral processes” organized by the aggressor state on the territory of Ukraine are legally null and void and have no legal consequences.
