In Kakhovka, during the occupation, a civilian man was kept in a basement for almost two weeks and tortured to extract a "confession". Two members of the pseudo-police are suspected of ill-treatment and have already been notified of suspicion in absentia.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Two members of the illegally created occupation "law enforcement agency" in Kakhovka were served suspicion notices in absentia. They are charged with cruel treatment of civilians and violation of the laws and customs of war.
According to the investigation, the defendants, aged 33 and 36, worked as inspectors in the so-called Kakhovka Police Department, created by the occupation authorities. In October 2022, they were in the captured Kakhovka and helped to establish the control of the aggressor state.
Investigators found that one day the Russian military brought a local resident to the seized police station. The man was first held in a cell and later transferred to the basement, where the suspects were interrogated.
During the so-called"interrogations," the victim was forcibly asked to provide information about the possible presence of weapons, his pro-Ukrainian position and his circle of acquaintances among activists. Due to the lack of necessary answers, the man was beaten and threatened with further torture.
According to law enforcement officials, the victim spent almost two weeks in captivity - in inhumane conditions, without basic amenities, with minimal food and water. After that, he was released. The pre-trial investigation in the case is being carried out by the Kherson regional police investigators.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the suspects are Oleksandr Makohonyk and Oleksiy Kravchenko. "In 2022, they took up the positions of inspectors of the patrol and post service department of the occupation police department in Kakhovka.
Earlier , Kravchenko and Makohonyk were notified of suspicion of collaboration under Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face 12 to 15 years in prison and confiscation of all property.
Also, a pseudo-police officer who participated in the torture of a civilian during the occupation of Kherson will be tried for a war crime. On his orders, the man was thrown into a sewer shaft of one of the hospitals - about five meters deep.
