An SBU investigator from the Odesa region, convicted of bribery, remains behind bars

The Supreme Court upheld the sentenceagainst Serhiy Glivinsky, a former investigator with one of the departments of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison in the spring of 2024.
According to the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, on September 10, 2026, the Criminal Cassation Court within the Supreme Court ruled to uphold the verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) and the ruling of the HACC’s Appeals Chamber, which foundSerhiy Glivinsky, a former investigator for particularly important cases in the Investigative Department of the SBU Directorate in Odesa Oblast, guilty of extorting and receiving an unlawful benefit of 80,000 U.S. dollars from a citizen in exchange for taking procedural and investigativeactions that resulted in the mitigation of a preventive measure and the lifting of the freeze on the foreign national’s property and bank accounts.

The Supreme Court agreed with the arguments of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), rejected the defense’s cassation appeal, and upheld the legality of the lower courts’ decisions. Consequently, Serhiy Glivinsky was sentenced to 9 years in prison, with a three-year ban on holding positions in the Security Service of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies, and the confiscation of all property owned by him. The Supreme Court’s ruling is final and cannot be appealed.
