A court in Mykolaiv has remanded a man suspected of treason into custody. According to investigators, he passed information to a representative of the Russian Federation about the city’s critical infrastructure and the locations of Ukrainian military personnel.

The Central District Court of Mykolaiv issued the ruling on October 23.

The man will remain in custody until December 19, 2026. Under the law, if found guilty, he faces a sentence of 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

According to the case file, no later than September 23, the man began exchanging messages on Telegram with an unidentified representative of the Russian Federation and agreed to pass intelligence information to him.

On September 25, the suspect, according to the investigation, described the operations at an oil depot in the Mykolaiv seaport. He reported that the facility was operating at low capacity and also promised to monitor rail shipments.

That same evening, the man allegedly provided information about a location where military vehicles are repaired and the location of a National Guard unit. In his correspondence, he also described the territory and possible activities at the facility.

The SBU detained the man on October 21. During the hearing, he refused to provide a statement, citing Article 63 of the Constitution of Ukraine. The defense requested house arrest, but the court agreed with the prosecutor’s arguments regarding the risks of the suspect absconding and obstructing the investigation.

The man was notified of the charges against him under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason under martial law. The investigation is ongoing, and being charged does not imply guilt.
