A former director of a company in the Mykolaiv region was sentenced to seven years in prison for embezzling funds from a local community in the Pervomaiskyi district. The prosecutor’s office proved that he had forged acceptance certificates for work performed during road resurfacing.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
In October 2015, the convicted 60-year-old resident of Pervomaisk, while serving as director of a limited liability company, while carrying out major road resurfacing work in Pervomaisk, entered false information into the documents regarding the scope and cost of the work. This allowed him to embezzle funds from the local budget totaling nearly 400,000 hryvnias.
During the trial, the defendant did not admit guilt and denied any involvement in the crime.
Previously,an official from the Capital Construction Department in Odesa was brought to trial for embezzlement. According to the investigation, the Odesa budget suffered losses amounting to several million hryvnias due to the overstatement of the scope and cost of the work performed.
Detectives from the Territorial Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region established that the woman was responsible for technical supervision during the restoration and reinforcement of the foundation of a children’s center. According to investigators, the official knew that some of the work specified in the contract had not actually been performed. Despite this, she signed documents that listed inflated volumes and costs for the work.
