A court found a resident of the Kherson region—who had served as a deputy in the occupying “council” in Chaplynka on behalf of the “KPRF”—guilty of collaboration. He was sentenced to nine years in prison and had his property confiscated.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
In court, prosecutors proved that in July 2023, the defendant joined the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, whose activities are banned in Ukraine. In September 2023, he participated in the conduct of illegal “elections” to the so-called Council of Deputies of the Chaplynka Municipal District on behalf of this political party and received a “deputy’s mandate.” As a member of the “KPRF” faction, the defendant carried out activities in support of the occupying authorities and helped promote them among the population of the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region.
Subsequently, the man was included in the “audit commission” of the illegally established governing body. In addition, he became a “member of the standing commission on deputy activities and the organization of local self-government.”
Since the convicted man is in the temporarily occupied territory, the verdict was handed down in absentia.
Earlier, the court punished a retired Ministry of Internal Affairs employee from Kherson for distributing Russian license plates for cars. During the occupation of the city, he worked at the Russian-established “MREO,” where he registered vehicles according to Russian regulations. During the trial, the defendant did not admit his guilt.
