Two teenagers from Odesa region will be prosecuted for a series of car arsons. The defendants damaged several vehicles of other people, causing the owners losses of more than UAH 2.5 million. The offenders face up to 10 years in prison.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

During the investigation, police found that while looking for a job, a 19-year-old boy from Berezivskyi district and his 18-year-old friend from Podilskyi district met an unknown person online in September who offered to make money by setting fire to other people's cars. The employer introduced himself as a collector and said that he would pay money for the destruction of debtors' vehicles.

After agreeing, the accomplices took pictures of cars on the streets of the regional center and sent them to the supervisor, who chose which ones to burn. Then the young men would buy flammable liquids, pour them on the agreed objects at night, either alone or together, set them on fire, film them for reporting purposes, and flee.

Having not received all the money they had been promised, the young men refused to continue working. However, the supervisor began blackmailing the younger man, threatening to report the previous arson attacks to law enforcement.

The police detained the younger arsonist at his place of residence. The other offender was found in Mykolaiv region, where he was hiding. The court imposed on the offenders custody and nightly house arrest as a measure of restraint.

The arsonists now face up to ten years in prison.
