The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi City District Court of Odesa Oblast fined a serviceman for trying to prevent police officers from detaining his brother with a shovel.
The case file indicates that the soldier, seeing his brother getting into a car driven by three police officers who were part of a mobile checkpoint team, began swearing and blocking the passage by waving a shovel, the Judicial and Legal Newspaper reported.
During the conflict, the defendant banged the shovel on the asphalt and shouted insults at police officers. He also opened the door of the police car and tried to pull his brother out.
He also tried to deflate the wheel of the police car and stuck the shovel between the wheel and the fender, damaging the car.
The court took into account that at the time of the criminal offense, the man was on leave for treatment after being injured in connection with the defense of the homeland (condition after a mine-blast injury, gunshot shrapnel perforating wound of the left foot, gunshot multiple fragmentation fractures of metatarsals 1-4, bases of proximal phalanges of 4.5 toes; flaccid wounds of the left foot).
The court found the man guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to a fine in the amount of one thousand tax-free minimum incomes, which is UAH 17 thousand.
Meanwhile, the police received a statement about a possible beating of a man in Sukhoi Lyman by employees of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support. A video showing local passers-by in civilian clothes poking around a man sitting near a pillar with signs of fainting and accusing the military of beating him appeared on social media on April 4. The video also shows TCC employees trying to open the man's mouth and performing actions similar to resuscitation, while he lies motionless with his eyes open.
The Odesa Regional Territorial Center for Manning and Social Support stated that the man was faking loss of consciousness.
