MP from Chernihiv region is served suspicion notice of timber smuggling through Odesa region

Prosecutors in Odesa Oblast have served three people with timber smuggling suspicion notices, including a local council member from Chernihiv Oblast, a resident of the oblast, and an entrepreneur.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, it was found that the two men and the deputy organized the export of timber prohibited for export to the Republic of Moldova using forged documents.
To implement the criminal plan, one of the suspects specially registered as an individual entrepreneur. They exported pine in four batches through the Mamalyha checkpoint in Chernivtsi region and through the Starokozache checkpoint in Odesa region.
In total, they illegally moved 115 cubic meters of pine across the border. The value of the timber is almost UAH 1 million.
The detainees are charged with smuggling timber and valuable tree species committed by a group of people by prior conspiracy. If proven guilty in court, the suspects face imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained the head of a Ukrainian political party on suspicion of fraud. Law enforcement officers detained the politician in a Kyiv restaurant when he received USD 160 thousand, according to the investigation, for the inclusion of a person in the party. According to the case, among other things, the defendant publicly spread fakes about the Defense Forces and the socio-political situation in Ukraine.
