Man from Kherson region kept an arsenal of explosives and ammunition at home

Thanks to the position of prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Court of Appeal overturned the previous lenient sentence and issued a new decision. A man convicted of illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition and explosives (under Article 263 (1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors proved that in 2024, a resident of Beryslav district illegally purchased and stored a significant number of explosive military items in his household. The arsenal seized by law enforcement in April 2025 included warheads of unguided aircraft missiles, grenade launchers and other ammunition.
Despite the fact that the arsenal was located in a residential area and posed a heightened danger to others, the court of first instance found the man guilty but released him from serving his sentence with a probationary period.
The prosecutor's office appealed the decision, claiming that the sentence was not commensurate with the gravity of the crime committed during wartime. The Court of Appeal agreed with the prosecution's arguments and handed down a new sentence with real imprisonment.
Earlier, a court in Mykolaiv released a serviceman from punishment for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. During searches of his apartment and garages, law enforcement officers found explosives, grenades, assault rifles, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
According to the investigation, in January 2024, an explosion occurred in one of Mykolaiv's high-rise buildings. Fortunately, there were no civilian casualties, but the blast wave injured the owner of the apartment, a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found that the explosion was caused by an improvised device. Law enforcement officers searched the apartment and found a whole arsenal. Further investigative actions led law enforcement to several rented garages in Mykolaiv, where they found real warehouses of military equipment.
