Director of a maritime company from Mykolaiv turned his home into an arsenal

The Central District Court of Mykolaiv considered the materials of criminal case No. 490/1399/24, initiated against the head of an enterprise providing services in the field of maritime training.
This was reported by the Judicial and Legal Newspaper.
The accused, who heads a company that supplies navigation technologies, simulators for sailors and other specialized equipment, became a defendant in a case of illegal possession of weapons.
The fact of storage of the arsenal was discovered by law enforcement agencies during a search at the director's residence. The court proceedings concern the activities of the company's director, which contrast with the official scope of his professional activities.
During a search of the director's residence, law enforcement officers found a full-fledged arsenal suitable for arming a combat-ready unit. Seventeen assault rifles of various modifications (including AK-74, AK-12 and AKMS), three grenade launchers (two hand-held anti-tank and one under-barrel), grenade cases (F-1, RGO, RGD-5) with fuses, as well as more than three thousand rounds of ammunition of various calibers, including armor-piercing and incendiary bullets, were seized. The expert examination confirmed that all the seized ammunition and weapons were fully fit for fire.
The accused pleaded guilty in court, not denying the ownership of the seized arsenal. The court's verdict does not explain the motives for the accumulation of such a large number of weapons by a civilian working in the civilian sphere. The court, taking into account the sincere repentance of the accused and his positive characterization, but noting the significant public danger of the act, sentenced him to three years in prison with a probationary period of one year. In addition, he was ordered to pay more than UAH 37 thousand for the forensic examinations.
According to the court's verdict, all the seized weapons and ammunition were transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the needs of state defense. The court emphasized that the storage of such an arsenal in a private home posed a real threat to the environment and neighbors, regardless of the intentions of the accused.
