Arsonist of military vehicles sentenced to 5 years in Odesa

A 22-year-old Odesa resident was sentenced to 5 years in prison for setting fire to cars belonging to the Ukrainian military. The sentence was passed by the court with the support of prosecutors.

According to the investigation, the man conspired with a representative of the aggressor state via Telegram. He was offered money for setting fire to Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicles or vehicles with the symbols of Ukrainian military formations.
The arsonist acted according to the instructions: first, he took photos of the selected cars, waited for "permission" to set them on fire, and then poured incendiary mixture on the cars, set them on fire, and filmed the process. He sent the recordings to the customer as proof of the completed "task". As a result of his actions, three vehicles used by Ukrainian defenders were destroyed. The total amount of damage is over 500 thousand hryvnias.
The man was detained in September 2024. He was in custody until the verdict was announced. During the trial, he pleaded guilty and repented. The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 114-1 and Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces and intentional destruction of property. He will spend 5 years behind bars. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Office in Odesa region.
